Beauty and the Beast: Vocal Department Production

You haven't seen me blogging much these past two weeks. And this is why.

The Vocal Department at my school put on Broadway's Beauty and the Beast; and with countless hours of rehearsals and performances (100+) over a span of 2 weeks, the shows (10!) turned out better than expected.

This experience, for lots of vocal majors, was something out of our comfort zone, something lots of us just aren't used to. The majority of us would rather be singing on risers in our pretty choral dresses and handsome tuxes.
This was a big, big step.

We performed "Les Mis" last year, but on a much smaller scale. Few set pieces, three performances, and few hours spent working during and after school. In a course of just a year a big change was made.

In the end, I wouldn't have it any other way. Sure, it was a difficult two weeks, with its ups and downs, on top of managing school and extra curriculars (plus things that normal high schoolers do!), but in the end I got to spend countless hours with my friends. And new relationships were made.

Enjoy a few pictures from the wonderful Susan Lloyd, one of the amazing vocal moms and a spectacular photographer.

These are photos featured from three of the five group songs. As a department, we also performed "The Battle" and "Belle".

Head on over to the SOA Vocal Department Facebook Page to view more pictures and watch clips from the performances.

How do you cope with stepping out of your comfort zone?
