Tea Talk Tuesday : Shannon from Prep Avenue

1.  For those who don't follow your blog, tell us a little bit about yourself!
I’m a sophomore in college attending Furman University majoring in communications! As a typical type A girl, I over plan most everything and practically live out of my planner! I grew up all over the world as a Military brat, which sparked my passion for travel. My parents and brothers now reside in sunny Raleigh, NC with our schnoodle puppy, Cooper! I believe you can never have enough seersucker or sparkle. I believe in the power of pink and the infinite strength of the power of one to ignite change.

2. Where do you go to school and what's your major?
I go to Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina and I am majoring in communications while mixing in some graphic design art classes and lots of marketing classes from the business department!

3. What agenda have you chosen to use for this school year?
To be honest, I haven’t chosen yet!! I really need to get on that! I tried a Kate Spade planner last year and previously I had always used a Lilly planner. However, recently I received a Whitney English Day Planner as a gift and I’m debating using that one!

4. If you could only own 5 pairs of shoes, what would they be?
I would have to go with some of classic picks that would go with everything. I think I would say a pair of classic brown Sperry’s, a solid black pointed toe pump, a gold pair of Jack Rogers, a pair of brown riding boots, and a pair of brown duck boots for rainy and cold winter days!

5. What are some of your favorite blog posts you've ever written?
Hmmmm… that’s a hard one. I think I have it narrowed down to two. The first one is a more recent one. #Gettingreal is about the power of social media. We all tend to compare our lives to other accounts that make their world look perfect through editing and filters (we’re all guilty). We compare our college experience against someone else’s college Facebook album. Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc. has the power to glorify your life and make it look like you’re living a near perfect life. When in reality, most of our lives aren’t posted on any social media platform. The second post is a letter I wrote to the incoming freshman class last year just before graduating. It’s a letter encouraging these rising freshman to take advantage of the precious memories they’re going to make during the next 4 years and not to wish it away.

6. You've gotten to work with some great brands! What's been your favorite to work with and what brand is your next goal/dream?
I think my favorite person I’ve gotten to work with so far is Evelyn Henson. Not only is her artwork flawless, she is so sweet and graduated from Furman! If I could work with any brand out there it would definitely be someone like Kate Spade or Lilly Pulitzer. Maybe one day!

7. Favorite apps?
Suprisingly I have resisted the urge and don’t have really any games on my iPhone because I know if I did I would become completely addicted! However, I do love Ellen’s app called Head’s Up! It’s so fun to play at the dinner table with a big group of friends, we always get so into it! I also love Shazam because I have a small music obsession and I get so frustrated when I hear a song that I love and then I don’t know what it’s called! And then like any other typical girl, I love Instagram, snapchat, and Twitter.

8. What pieces of jewelry do you wear everyday?
I cannot walk out of the house without earrings, usually just simple pearl studs! I also wear my Kate Spade watch, a gold link bracelet, and a pearl bracelet everyday!

9. What's something you wish you would have known going into high school? College?
High School: I wish I would have known that everything happens for a reason and that everything turns out. I was so worried about college and joining clubs just because they would look good on college applications. I would also tell myself to enjoy your 4 years there because it goes so fast! I think one of the other big lessons in high school, is that sometimes it’s important to take chances. It’s better to take a risk rather than feeling in the future.
College: I wish I would have known going into my freshman year (especially first semester) at Furman that it’s okay to take a break from school work and go out to dinner with friends. I spent a little too much time in the library first semester and because of this my first semester was was nowhere near as fun my second semester. It’s important not to take yourself too seriously and make time for yourself every once and a while!

10. If you could pack your bags and go and go anywhere, where would you go and why?
Europe, definitely Europe! I lived in Germany for three years so I’m slightly obsessed with traveling. However if I had to pick a specific place in Europe I would either pick a small town in Germany called Garmisch or one of the Greek islands!

Tea Talk Tuesday : Jillian from Cornflake Dreams

Jillian is the adorable blogger who moved to Charleston a few months ago and is sharing her experience here all on her blog, Cornflake Dreams! I have loved getting to know Jillian during her stay here and have loved seeing her oh-so perfect pictures on Instagram (link down below) of the "Holy City"! Enjoy today's Tea Talk Tuesday where you'll learn Jillian's favorite work out routines, the secret behind her blog name, and more.

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself!
Hi there! My name is Jillian and I am the blogger behind Cornflake Dreams. I grew up in a way western suburb of Chicago, went to college in Milwaukee, and then moved to downtown Chicago where I met my husband H and started my blog. I recently moved to Charleston, SC and I am loving exploring our new city.

2. You recently moved to Charleston! What's been your favorite part about the city and where are some of your favorite locations to visit?
I absolutely love living in downtown Charleston, it has been so fun to go for walks and look at all the historic homes and buildings in my neighborhood. I also love trying all of the wonderful restaurants -- Charleston has so many tasty spots! And it's been really fun meeting other bloggers in person, everyone is so welcoming in the South.

3. What prompted you to begin blogging, and how did you come up with your blogs name, Cornflake Dreams?
I started blogging in 2010 as a creative outlet from my 9-5 marketing job. I loved reading blogs and I thought it would be fun to share my own ideas online. My husband encouraged me to start the blog, so I used his nickname for me -- "Cornflake" as part of my blog name. I also grew up in the country, with cornfields in my backyard -- and had dreams of moving to the city, so Cornflake Dreams seemed like a perfect fit.

4. If you could pack your bags and go anywhere, were would you go?
I'd love to go to India! My husband and I have taken some amazing trips in the last few years (Spain, France, Turkey, Greece, Italy), but India seems like it would be SO different than our European trips.

5. What's your favorite color combo?
My closet is full of blue clothing -- I love classic navy paired with cream, and browns.

6. What's your favorite way to stay healthy and active?
I absolutely love yoga, I try to practice 3-4 times a week. It's so calming and a great way to stay toned. I also like to mix things up with pilates, weight lifting and kettlebell exercises

7. What book are you currently reading?
I have been reading Outlander for a few months...I need to finish it before the TV series starts. I have a few other books on my summer reading list I'd love to start.

Displaying Meet Jillian.png

8. What makeup have you been reaching for during the hot summer months?
I wear as little makeup as possible in the summer. I always wear eye makeup (shadow, liner, maskcara) but otherwise I keep it simple with moisturizer and sunscreen!

9. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I have no idea! My husband and I are trying to figure out where to live after Charleston and there are a lot of cities we are considering. Whatever city we end up in, I hope in 5 years we are settled down in a house with a yard!! I would love to have a garden.

10. What's your favorite way to spend a Saturday
I always start the day with breakfast (I love oatmeal), then an hour-long yoga class, I cook up something for lunch (my days usually revolve around food), then H and I take a walk around the hood and do a little shopping, dinner out somewhere fun in Charleston (my to-visit restaurant list keeps growing).... and dessert (that's always the best part!)

Tea Talk Tuesday : Bess Pearson from Belles in Bows

Bess Pearson from Belles in Bows has the most chic and classic style - she's definitely someone I look towards when I'm seeking inspiration for outfits and pieces I need/want in my wardrobe! Bess recently moved out and started her freshman year at college, and I have loved getting to hear all about her experience through her blog!

***

1. Tell us a little about yourself!
My name is Bess Pearson, I am going to be a college freshman at Sewanee this year and I am as obsessed with global politics as I am with new shoes!

2. How did you come up for the name of your blog, and what motivated you to start blogging?
The blog name was a result of me trying to think of something that embodied my aesthetic, roots, and a little bit of alliteration! I'm originally from the south (hence "belles") and although I've moved around a bunch it will always be a huge part of my identity. I started blogging originally as a distraction from my move last summer and never expected to keep it more than a few months. Much to my surprise, it started to get a good, positive response from people and I fell in love with blogging altogether.

3. You have some amazing photos on your blog. What camera and equipment do you use to shoot these photos? Any editing software?
Thank you! I shoot (as of late) with a Nikon d600 and a Tamron lens. I use Photoshop for editing!

4. How would you describe your style? What are some of your favorite stores to shop, and how do you find great deals?
I would say my style is a classic melding of north-meets-south style. I am a Lilly addict (who doesn't love all that color?!), and also frequent J. Crew (Factory >  regular), Ralph Lauren, Banana Republic, and Vineyard Vines. To find great deals I usually wait for big seasonal sales...but I have recently fallen in love with thrifting! I find that I am able to purchase amazing, unique garments for a fraction of the price which is amazing!
5. What are some clothing essentials you feel every girl should have in her closet?
OCBDs, loafers, dark denim, a blazer, a classic shift dress, Jack Rogers, a neutral skirt, and pearls!

6. What's your go to order for a Sunday brunch?
French toast. Holy cow am I ever addicted...also coffee...always coffee!

7. What's the best memory of your summer so far?
My boyfriend took me to the zoo last month (my love for the zoo is unreal) and we just wandered around looking at animals for hours before he took me out to dinner! It was perfect.

8. What are some of your favorite tourist locations in your area?
The Galleria (it's way better than MOA ...), the zoo, the sculpture gardens, Uptown, and the lakes! Minneapolis has so many fun things to do!

9. What are 3 blogs that you can't go a day without reading?
Summer Wind, Classy Girls Wear Pearls, and AlJazeera (I know it's not a blog but it's a go-to for news)

10. What are your future goals for your blog and personal life?
My future goals for my blog include continuing to grow my audience, to become more active on Youtube - it's seriously so fun - and to land a fun internship next summer! As for my personal life I am hoping to maintain a solid GPA, Rush in the Spring, and continue to expand my work experience!

11. Where can we find you on social media?
Facebook: Belles in Bows

Are Bess's outfits not the cutest? Make sure to go and show her some love, whether it be on her blog or social media!

Happy Tuesday!

Tea Talk Tuesday : Frannie from The Blonde Prep

Frannie's blog, The Blonde Prep, has been a favorite of mine for quite a while. Her posts are always on point and I find myself bookmarking my favorites way too often! Frannie's style is impeccable and her words of wisdom on her blog are perfect!

For those who don't read The Blonde Prep, tell us a little bit about yourself and blog!
My name is Frannie and I live in Wisconsin! I'm 15 and originally from Chicago, so I definitely consider myself a city child. I started The Blonde Prep in eighth grade, but the blog has grown tremendously and now functions as both a creative outlet and a business. I write about my life, my style, what I'm eating, and what I'm doing.

What drew you to blogging and how did you decide on your blog's name?
I started my blog as a competition with a friend (oops!), but I'm proud to say I've come a long way from that point. I made a list of a few ideas for a blog title, and when I thought of "The Blonde Prep", it just seemed right.

How do you handle school, blogging, and any extra curriculars?
During the school year I blog only on the weekends or on school nights where I have no homework. Extracurriculars are usually right after or before school for me, so it's easy to make those a part of my day. For homework, I just start right after school and go until I'm done!

What's your go to hair style during the summer? School year?
During the summer I usually just wear my hair down, but since it's super long (for me, at least) it somehow winds up in a topknot or a braid by the end of the day! During the school year I usually wear it half back or in a ponytail. I have a bad habit of making my hair look as bad as humanly possible for school...

What preppy brands do you find yourself shopping at the most? How do you find the best prices at these stores?
My closet is almost entirely J. Crew and Ralph Lauren, with the exception of Lilly and a bunch of random brands here and there. 99% of what I purchase at J. Crew is from the sale rack because literally everything from J. Crew goes on sale at some point, and typically that process is super fast.

What's your typical outfit for a fun Saturday out? Day at school?
I wear a uniform to school, so that requires my plaid skirt and polo day in and day out. On weekends, I usually stick to my riding boots, skinny jeans, and an oversized sweater when it's cold or converse, chinos, and something striped when it's warm!

What camera and equipment do you use to shoot photos for your blog? Any photo editing software?
I have a Nikon D3100 with a 50mm lens that I use to shoot, and I edit typically with VSCOcam or iPhoto.

If you could pack your bags right now and travel anywhere, where would you go? Why?
Back to NYC or Newport ;) I had the best time there two weeks ago, those are my two favorite cities!

Where would your dream home be located and what would it look like?
I have no idea where I want to live... Definitely east coast but I'm not sure what state! I know I would love to have a summer home in Newport, Rhode Island. As of design, I'm glad I still have time to figure that out!

Favorite apps, other than social media?
Does Snapchat count as social media? #guilty... Otherwise I have a guilty pleasure of editing pictures on VSCO when I'm bored. I don't have any games or fun apps on my phone... Send recommendations my way!

My typical brunch order is ...
Iced caramel coffee and a chocolate croissant or lots of fruit!

Tea Talk Tuesday : Sammy Sohl from Prepista

Today I'm excited to introduce Sammy, the blogger behind Prepista! Sammy lives in Southern California, and loves everything preppy and chic. You can read more about her on her about page, but first stay tuned to today's Tea Talk Tuesday - because you'll learn everything and more about her here!

***

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself!
- I'm the quintessential preppy fashionista. I swoon over all things Kate Spade, J.Crew, and Lilly Pulitzer, I'm absolutely obsessed with Instagram, and I'm addicted to Starbucks. I also have a strong appreciation for little luxuries, having grown up in the luxury retail business.

2. Why did you start your blog?
- I started my blog mainly as a distraction from some of the not-so-fun things going on during my sophomore year of high school, but also as a way to document the things that inspire me, as well as do a bit self-discovery.

3. What's the greatest thing that's come from blogging?
- I'd have to say by far the friends. Coming from someone who hasn't had the easiest time with friendships, I've met some of the sweetest people through this blog - girls that I know I can count on and that I will be friends with for a very long time. Getting to have this amazing support group that I can talk to about anything whenever I want (even if we are all scattered across the country) is something I wouldn't trade for the world.

4. Where do you go to school and what's your major?
- Currently I'm a high school senior (eeekk) at a small all girls high school in Los Angeles. Who knows where I'll end up for college, but hopefully it will involve studying business and communications.

5. What does your dream room look like?
- My dream room, in one word, would be calming. We just moved a few months back and I got to redecorate and I'm in love with my room right now. I stuck to pretty light colors, mainly baby pinks and white, and filled my room with the things that make me happy. The most important part to any room for me though is the bed because that's where I like to spend most of my time while I'm in my room. I like silly soft sheets, lots of pillows, and a big fluffy duvet.

6. What camera and equipment do you use when taking pictures for your blog? Any editing software?
- I use a Nikon DSLR d3200 that I received for my 17th birthday for all my outfit shoots. The other photos are a combination of pictures from my iPhone and my camera! I also use photoshop to edit blog photos on my computer and VSCOcam to edit photos on my phone.

7. What items in your closet have you been reaching for most lately?
-I can always fall back on my trusty navy and white striped shirt. It never steers me wrong and is so versatile! I can wear it with a skirt for a polished look, or jeans when I want to be a bit more comfy!

8. What's your favorite way to stay active and eat healthy?
-I'm obsessed with Soulcycle! (trendy enough for you?) I like that they're goal is to not only motivate you to get healthy and lose weight, but also to become the best version of yourself and remind you that you can break through any barrier standing between you and your dreams. I also drink a ton of water, and try (keyword try - it's the thought that counts, right?) to stick to one sweet a day. I also have been reaching for healthier snacks when looking for something to much on such as fresh fruit or carrot sticks as opposed to chips.

9. What are some of your favorite blogs to read everyday?
- I'm obsessed with reading The CollegePrepster. I go on that website at least 3 times a day even when I've already read the posts, just to explore. I also love Design Darling, and Design LoveFest.

10. You're ordering a coffee. What's your go-to drink?
- Venti iced coffee sweetened with milk, please! When I'm looking for something a bit more refreshing, a passion iced tea always does the trick!

11. Favorite trend at the moment?
- I'm not really one to follow trends, like ever, or really even pay attention to them, but some looks that I've always loved are minimalist makeup, stacked bracelets, and anything nautical inspired. I don't think those really count as trends, but it's as close as I'll ever get.
12. Social media handles?
- @Preptista for both Instagram and Twitter, Preptista on Facebook, and Sammy Sohl on Pinterest!

I hope you enjoyed this week's installment! Can you guess who will be featured next, October 21st?

xoxo

Tea Talk Tuesday : Kira from Kira Tabor

     Displaying IMG_2851.jpg
I've gone to school with Kira since 6th grade, (and saw her complete her last day at our school this last year before journeying over to the public high school!), and have really gotten to know her more this year. We really clicked when we both got serious about blogging, and she was someone I could really talk to about coding, writing, and all the bloggy talk that comes with having your own corner of the internet.

Tell us a little bit about yourself!
Bonjour, my name is Kira. If I'm not traveling you can find me with a book in one hand and a cappuccino in the other. I'm not your typical high school sophomore; instead of going to a football game I would rather be brunching and shopping in New York City, or traveling to foreign land  (France, Italy, Japan and Morocco sound lovely). My happy corner of the Internet reflects my love for timeless, classic fashion, clean, crisp photography and my voyages all over the world.

What's a day in the life like for you?
Wakeup. Workout. Smoothie. Online classes. Life. Oh, don't worry there are plenty of photo ops and catnaps thrown in between. ;)

What's the greatest thing that's come from blogging?
The single greatest thing that has come from blogging is self-discovery. I have connected with many people and (hopefully) inspired other people. I have found my true personal style by being connected with different blogs and companies all over the World Wide Web.

You recently go to go on an amazing trip to Ecuador and the Galopagos. Tell us a little bit about that experience!
I’ve hit Europe pretty hard, seventeen countries to be exact. South America has always been on my bucket list. I had been craving a different scenery and culture. Ecuador was amazing. Their local textiles, food and dances were colorful and exotic. Americans have everything at their fingertips, yet they can have a cold heart. Ecuadorians, who work very hard got everything that they earn, are the most warm and welcoming people. Their hearts are filled with kindness, and they are more than happy to proclaim how proud they are of the country that they call home. Ecuador is also home to the Galapagos Islands, you know like the one Charles Darwin created his theory of evolution. The Galapagos are uninhabited islands that are home to the most beautiful, exotic forms of wildlife: giant tortoises, marine and land iguanas, blue-footed boobies, sea lions and lots of beautiful underwater life like sharks, whales and rays. Stepping back and enjoying beautiful geographical and nature creations of the world in their simplest, yet most complex form ... I just cannot even begin to put my feelings into words. If you haven’t already, add Galapagos and Ecuador to your travel bucket list.

What's your favorite way to brainstorm new ideas for your blog?
For me blogging is how I document things that I encounter and things that I do. There is no true way to brainstorm posts for me except for going out into the world doing something amazing and using my blog to reflect with pictures and minimal words on my experience. I also like to document things that inspire me and people that I look up to.

How do you stay organized during the school year? What agenda do you plan on using for the 2014-15 school year?
During the school year, my planner is my absolute best friend. I write every single thing down that I need to do, I need to remember, people I need to talk to, etc. Just seeing everything before my eyes keeps me moving forward. I also like the satisfying feeling of crossing things out. Even though we live in the era of technology, I prefer to keep school – old school.

You're going out for a fun brunch with friends. What's your order and what will you be wearing?
White dresses and strappy sandals are a must wear for brunch. As for food goes, I’ve basically got a routine. Always start off with a cappuccino no matter what. After that a croissant to share, followed by waffles with fresh berries or a delightful sandwich on a crunchy baguette.

What are some of your favorite places to shop? How do you find great deals at these stores?
J. Crew and Anthropologie are basically the only places I shop. However, I hardly buy anything at the full price. There are two main secrets to my shopping success: be a member to receive special discounts and THE SALE SECTION IS YOUR BEST FRIEND. True life: I bought a $200 jacket at J. Crew for roughly $45 dollars. That was basically the happiest day of my life.

What pieces of jewelry do you wear on a daily basis?
Always the MK rose gold watch and the Tiffany & Co. tags, always.

You can only have 5 pairs of shoes in your closet. What will they be?

What are your favorite apps, other than social media?
Hmm, I don’t really play games because I tend to get pretty frustrated but when I do I play 2048. No, I haven’t gotten the 2048 tile yet. MyFitnessPal is pretty cool, and I do all of my Instagram edits with VSCO Cam!

Favorite tourist locations in Charleston?
Charleston is an amazing place to call home. Over the years I have played tourist in my own town, and I have my few favorite places to go. King Street is an amazing place to go shopping: Anthropologie, J. Crew, Madewell, Kate Spade. Of course, we cannot forget the beautiful Charleston Place hotel. Grabbing brunch, picking up a chocolate covered strawberry and browsing the expensive stores are the highlights. There is also the Old Marketplace that once was a place where the slave trade was held. There you can purchase lovely Charleston-made goods like benne wafers, jewelry and soaps. The Battery and the Pineapple Fountain Park are great waterfront picnic spots. My favorite places to grab a bite in Charleston include 39 Rue de Jean, Sermets and of course Sugar Bakeshop!

Where can we find you on social media?

Kira has been so much fun to work with and I've loved getting to connect with her personally through blogging! It's so helpful finding someone in your area who is the same age with the same goals and interests, such as blogging!

Q - What do you think it means to be classy?
Classy is a timeless and classic style that will never be out of style. It's modest, comfortable, and casual.

Q - Who are some of your role models?
One of my biggest role models in terms of blogging has to be Carly. She started blogging her Freshman Year at Georgetown University and has been able to grow her blog tremendously since. Lifestyle wise, probably Jackie O; she always had impeccable style and after reading These Few Precious Days I fell in love even more.

Q - Who are some of your style icons?
Like I previously stated, Jackie O, as well as Kate Middleton, and tons and tons of bloggers (I love looking at style/outfit posts!). If I could go back to the early 1900's and wear what Michelle Dockery wears on Downton Abbey, she'd be my style icon hands down!

Q - Pearls or bows?
Pearls!

Q - Who/What inspires you?
Other bloggers! I love seeing the content they've come up with themselves and the accomplishments they've made through blogging. It shows me how much my blog will grow in the future and gives me ideas for future posts.

Q - What is your favorite color?
Navy, hands down.

Q - Do you like the 'classy' style? What are some of your favorite pieces/trends of the style?
I love the 'classy' style. Some of my favorite pieces include a pair of simple black pants, a button down, comfortable flats, versatile cardigan, shift/shirt dress(es), and a navy skirt.

Q - What are some of your favorite quotes?

T-shirt verse Scripture Art Jeremiah 2911 Print Bible Verse 11x14 by LilyandVal    A well traveled woman

I nominate:
