06 . 22 . 15

in continuation after this post, I have decided to continue sharing the mighty things I learned while at camp!
if you didn’t get a chance to read my first post, here is the main “mission” from our time at camp, as well as what I hope at least one reader will learn from this series ::
throughout the week, we studied different components of the Lord's Prayer. as Episcopalians, this is a prayer we say every Sunday in our service, and for most it has become part of our second nature. a lot of times we don't even think about what we're really saying, what we're actually asking God to do for us!

today’s blog post is focused on the second section of the prayer.
{ thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as is is in heaven }
LARGE and IN CHARGE

read : Matthew 6:9-13 {The Lord's Prayer}

“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
“This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
   on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
   as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
   but deliver us from the evil one.”’

God is the King- and his kingdom is heaven; but …
it has come, through Jesus
it will come, through God
and it is already on Earth, in our hearts through the Holy Spirit
pray for the good news
submit to God through the Lord’s prayer

read : Luke 22:39-46 {Jesus Prays on the Mount of Olives}

Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him. On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.
When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow. “Why are you sleeping?” he asked them.“Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.”

your will be done - purpose of prayer
Jesus prayed a part of the Lord’s prayer that we still say to this day!

three things we should do while praying :
submit to God’s will
share God’s kingdom
seek God’s direction

in Christ,

p.s. one disclaimer I want to make that in no way am I trying to sound “preachy” or force my beliefs on you. I simply want to share what I’ve learned and hope that, in the process, at least one person finds some benefit in something they read through this series. I am always open to any comments you have and I will read and reply to each one, whether it is for discussion or constructive criticism!
